AMMusika Concert Series

AMMusika* is a chamber music series (in-person and online) offering programs that highlight new composers from underrepresented groups alongside works from the Western Classical repertory. The performers will be mainly NYC -based colleagues with occasional guest artists from out of town.

AMMusika brings new music and artistic collaborations to audiences that don’t usually select chamber music as a choice of entertainment. An immediate population is CCNY-CUNY Biology department students where Stefan Pukatzki (husband) has a lab and teaches a few courses.

One of AMMusika’s program themes is “Music & Microbes”: The “M&M” Series is a memorable educational experience that marries traditionally opposite fields, Art & Science. These multidisciplinary presentations, in lecture-performance format, is an introduction to the science behind the disease. High resolution images will be projected onto the planetarium dome (CCNY Planetarium) so the audience can have an immersive exploratory experience. To add to this distinctive presentation, the lecture will be interspersed with live musical excerpts for reflection after salient points are made in the talk.

Other Series titles presented: “Chopin & Tuberculosis”; “Koch/Pasteur: the Age of Discovery of the Bacterium (highlighted with Romantic works of the period by Felix & Fanny Mendelssohn, Brahms, Robert and Clara Schumann); “Schubert & Syphilis”.

AMMusika programs are presented in-person at various mid-sized unique NYC venues, and online streaming via YouTube. All performances are admission-by-donation, and whenever possible, Free. Also, preview performances will be shared with the Mt. Sinai Union Square community at the Louis Armstrong Atrium.
